Aero 24-7 is an aerodynamic high efficiency coach that travels non-stop during night and day. The integrated autonomous driving mode lets the driver take his break whilst driving. Providing a private jet experience gives passengers the possibility to use their travel time efficiently by working or sleeping during the journey. The specially designed interior, seats and its single-row arrangement fulfill these needs. (FH Joanneum, Industrial Design Master project by Daniel Brunsteiner, Laura Lang, Ivo Wawer)

In the ideation phase many shapes and details had been created and evaluated. We focused of course on the implementaion of the Neoplan design language and a futuristic evolution of these elements. With the design we want to communicate that this coach is an high-tech machine which offers many new and exciting features to its passengers.

To efficiently improve the aerodynamics of the coach, we firstly reduced the overall height of the bus which leads to a significant lower drag coefficient.
We then improved the shape by running aerodynamic simulations. It took several iterations to find the perfect shape.

The goal was to improve the aerodynamics of the bus in order to ensure a lower fuel consumption despite the faster speeds. That is why we chose to utilize CFD software in our design process.
We tested a number of different shapes and evalutaed the outcome to come up with the most aerodynamic shape yet still be able to fit the components like cabin, cockpit and engine room inside it.

The physical modeling process startet with a milled foam block which was then sanded, and primed and painted.
Details like lights and wheels have been 3D printed and added.

Simple single top compartments for each seat can be used to stow personal hand luggage which also emphasizes the private jet experience. A central service area is placed in the middle of the bus and can be reached easily by every passenger. It contains snacks, drinks and travel equipment like blankets or head phones. Besides the conventional bus toilet room the vehicle has an extra room which provides a refreshing area. Thereby passengers can change clothes or brush their teeth before getting off the bus regarding an eight hour non-stop drive.

The seat cushions are connected and can move freely. By changing the seat position the upper and lower cushion moves into the seat case which serves as a noise cancelling hood and provides privacy during the sleep. As business people might also have the need to work at night from time to time, an individual small reading light is positioned at the seatcase. It can be pulled out and twisted so that it does not distract other passengers but illuminate the working area.

COCKPIT

On the right side of the cockpit interior the driver can place the Neoplan branded suitcase which is fitting exactly into the sideboard. The push loading drawer eases the storage.

On the left side is the private space of the driver. It contains a tray for placing a cup, coffee machine, a small refrigerator, a locker and space for additional storage. In breaks or when the autonomous driving mode of the bus is activated it enables more comfort for the driver.

The driver can adjust the steering wheel to the personal driving leanings. Buttons are positioned on the side panel left and right. With the left side buttons the driver can operate functions which are mainly used during driving. On the right side are the main buttons for getting started. An additional touch display can be used for further adjustments for example media & entertainment.

This project was conducted with MAN Truck & Bus AG. The concept was developed for MANs bus brand NEOPLAN.
Due to a confidential agreement some projects parts can not be shown in its full elaboration. The project partner uses
those concepts for further development  (and implementation) and are therefore under confidentiality.
